Character and Citizenship Education (CCE)
Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) supports the holistic development of our students by nurturing good character, strong values and social-emotional competencies. Through meaningful learning experiences, students develop a sense of responsibility, resilience and care for others, while gaining the skills and confidence to make responsible decisions and contribute positively to the school and wider community.
Overview
In MGS, Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) is integral to the holistic development of our students. Through the various lessons and activities in the CCE Curriculum, we seek to establish a caring and enabling school culture and develop values and social-emotional competencies in our students.

Curriculum
The CCE Curriculum is anchored on the school values of Godliness, Excellence and Love. It is delivered through lessons conducted during curriculum time (GEL lessons, Chapel and Daily Devotions) and student development experiences.
The topics that are discussed during GEL lessons and our school-based initiatives that combine aspects of Character and Citizenship Education include:

At Secondary 1, students embark on a journey of self-discovery as they transition into adolescence. They deepen their understanding of their strengths, learning styles, work habits, and the values that guide their decisions. Students are guided to grow in key qualities such as honesty, respect, empathy, and responsibility, while also developing an awareness of their roles as members of the school and wider community. By nurturing a strong sense of belonging and encouraging active participation, we aim to shape students into ethical, compassionate, and socially responsible individuals. |

At Secondary 2, students develop the skills and attitudes needed to become effective and contributing team players. They deepen their understanding of how to build positive relationships, while reflecting on their own strengths and areas for growth when working with others. Students learn to communicate their ideas clearly, listen actively, and collaborate towards shared goals. They also come to appreciate diverse perspectives and are guided to navigate differences and conflicts with respect and maturity. By nurturing a culture of collaboration and open communication, we aim to equip students with the interpersonal skills and adaptability needed to thrive in team environments. |

At Secondary 3, students continue to strengthen their ability to build positive relationships as they take on leadership roles in their class and CCAs. They deepen their capacity to work collaboratively while reflecting on how they can influence and support others. Students are encouraged to question assumptions, explore innovative solutions, and work in teams to address real-world issues at both local and global levels. They also grow in empathy, learning to appreciate diverse perspectives and recognise the impact of their actions on others. By nurturing empathetic changemakers, we aim to equip students with the mindset and skills to lead with purpose and contribute meaningfully to their communities and beyond. |

At Secondary 4, students are equipped with the competencies to lead with responsibility and purpose as they prepare for life beyond school. They deepen their ability to take ownership of the resources, relationships, and opportunities entrusted to them. Students are guided to grow as faithful stewards, developing ethical leadership, adaptability, and a strong sense of accountability. They continue to strengthen their communication skills- verbal, written, and digital, to navigate diverse contexts with confidence. By nurturing leadership grounded in integrity, care, and wisdom, we aim to empower students to make thoughtful decisions and contribute meaningfully to the world around them. |
MGS Student Development Experiences
Student Development Experiences or Milestone Programmes are organised for each cohort. These experiences provide authentic contexts for learning as well as opportunities for students to practice the social-emotional skills they have learnt in class. Experiences are designed for social mixing and communication where through common tasks and challenges, students take steps forward to interact with those beyond their class and school.

School Experiences
The MGS girl is presented with a plethora of experiences and opportunities for growth, socialisation and self-discovery. These are offered both at each stage of their schooling years and as the opportunities arise. These are optional and we encourage students to take up some of these offers to fuel an existing interest, learn something new, discover new knowledge, practice planning and leadership, forge friendships and make memories.
